This is a widely recognised qualification and is ideal if you want to begin working in the veterinary nursing industry and if you want to learn the skills needed to work under supervision in a veterinary practice. The role of an Animal Nursing Assistant is to assist qualified staff in the general husbandry and care of patients. Animal Nursing Assistants may play an active role in the day-to-day running of a veterinary practice including reception and client communication. COURSE CONTENT * Animal Accommodation * Feeding and Watering * Basic Animal Treatments * Anaesthesia and Fluid Therapy * Animal Assistance * Anatomy and Physiology * Nutrition * Restraint * Reception * Infection Control * Parasitology and Zoonosis To achieve the Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants students will be required to complete an external assessment linked to Companion animal anatomy and physiology. Students will also be assessed using a range of practical demonstrations and written assignments which will be used to compile a portfolio of evidence. The course offers a blend of theory, task-based learning, tutorials and practical workshops at college to underpin the skills and knowledge required to meet the assessment criteria. As part of this you will be required to complete a total of 20 days work experience within a veterinary practice. PROGRESSION This qualification will help you find work as an Animal Nursing Assistant. Alternatively students who achieve the Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants and who have also attained Functional Skills at Level 2 in English and Mathematics or the equivalent proxy qualifications may progress onto the RCVS Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing at our Easton Campus or the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management.
