The First Diploma in Travel and Tourism will introduce you to the world of the Travel and Tourism Industry. The course will enable you to find out about this exciting, ever-expanding sector and will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to work either within the industry or to find employment within general business areas. Anyone who has a keen interest in the industry and wants to achieve the equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A*-C including Maths and English. The course assessment is based on course work, observation and practical tasks, which are relevant to the industry and the emphasis is on developing business skills. The course requires 60 credits to achieve the qualification. You study three compulsory units* followed by three specialist units over one year: Mandatory - - The UK Travel and Tourism Sector* - Exploring Customer Service in Travel and Tourism* - Understanding the nature and effects of world travel* Other - - The UK Travel and Tourism Destinations - Exploring Marketing in Travel and Tourism - Overseas Holiday destinations - Residential study visit - Exploring Airports and Airlines - European holiday destinations - UK visitor attractions The course includes visiting speakers, conferences, training days and numerous day visits. There are many visits including to the NEC, World Travel Market, Cardiff Bay, Cadbury World, Thorpe Park, Cabot Circus, Roman Baths, Weston-Super-Mare, Hospitality Show, a Ghost Hunting and Residential trip to a UK destination. Training days include Working as a Holiday Representative, Working as Air Cabin Crew and a First Aid course. Students will also study Communication at Level 2 if they do not hold GCSE English Language or English Literature grade C. There will be a short exam but the majority of portfolio work will be sourced from the student- s coursework.
