AS Level Religious Studies

This course explores questions about God, the origins of the universe, human nature, evil, the afterlife and the pursuit of happiness through the company of great philosophers and theologians. You will study the philosophy of religion which will look at the cosmological argument for the existence of God, with reference to the work of theologian Thomas Aquinas. You will also look at religious experiences, including visions, conversions and mysticism. Your studies will also cover science and religion including religious ideas about the origins of the universe, scientific theories, and the conflict between scientific and religious understanding of the universe ; and the design argument including the Design Argument as presented by Aquinas and Paley, objections to the Design Arguments as presented by Hume and Hawkins and religious responses to scientific criticisms of the Design Argument.
