Creative Writing

UPDATED 20160107 13:30:53

Creative Writing is a relatively new A Level subject, created in conjunction with the Russell Group of Universities. It has been designed to bridge the gap between GCSE and degree level study of Creative Writing – a very popular course at higher level. It is highly regarded by Universities and employers as, like English Literature, it teaches students to communicate effectively, analyse in depth and express ideas clearly – all highly transferable skills in today’s world. Studying Creative Writing enables students to analyse and evaluate the ways in which writers use language to create meaning and it helps young people to understand the power of the written word so that they can use it to better effect in their own lives. It is a stepping stone to a range of creative occupations including scriptwriting, magazine and newspaper journalism, marketing and other professional writing occupations. A Level Creative Writing is suitable for students who enjoy reading and writing but do not want to solely analyse and evaluate the written word; while this is part of the course, it is a means to an end, to help students produce their own high quality writing and develop their understanding of the writing process.
