A-Level Film Studies will enable you to deepen your understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of film; the major art form of the Twentieth Century. The interaction between spectator and film is central to this course. There is a strong emphasis on the Filmmakers’ and audiences’ roles as “makers of meaning”, allowing you to analyse the film as a text in its own right and begin reading the visual. During the two-year course you will also have the opportunity to create your own short film.

In Year Two you’ll get another chance to create a short film or write your own screenplay, with a reflective analysis, and complete a small scale research task; a presentation script with annotated catalogue. You will be introduced to the basics of the subject by reference to popular cinema, of the type conventionally created in Hollywood and Britain. In Year Two you will have opportunities to study World Cinema and engage in more personal research. You will also have the chance to explore short film making during both years of study.
