The main purpose of the PHOTOGRAPHY course is to develop your ability to appreciate the visual world and to enable you to respond in a personal and creative way. The Art Department staff devise and implement projects which encourage you to: Question all preconceived notions of art and personal ability. Trust your creative instincts. Express your ideas and feelings through the controlled use of a broad range of photographic materials and techniques. Investigate and relate to all the evolutionary processes that are inherent in the development of good artwork. Articulate issues relating to the work of other artists from a variety of cultures, past and present. The study of Photography will deepen your understanding of the visual world across different times and cultures and introduce you to the diverse roles and functions of Photography in contemporary life. A foundation in this subject can lead to a wide range of career opportunities in the creative industries, an area experiencing great expansion in this country. Photography is important because all sectors of the job market require creative thinkers who can innovate, see and make connections, solve problems and make informed decisions and judgements.
