This level 2 course will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in schools. The units taught cover children and young people's development, the requirements of safeguarding and the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion. The learners must achieve 9 mandatory units totalling 24 credits and then two more optional units leading to a total of 30 credits. Training will be carried out within the classroom by projects, role play, group discussions, research and pair work. It will equip the learners with the skills required to work in a school environment. The learners will build a portfolio which will provide evidence of their knowledge. They will be required to complete homework and assessments each week. The learners will also be assessed in the workplace by their assessor who will judge their competency over several units within the school environment. Assessors will provide feedback to learners on their practice and will also set homework tasks to complete. College-based sessions will be for 15 weeks and will run alongside the work placement. Please note that workplace assessments continue after the college based sessions have been completed and may take up to one year.
