How to Use your Sewing Machine: Level 1

Do you have a sewing machine and are not sure how to use it properly? Learn how to select the correct tension. Practise stitch lengths and widths, blind hemming, buttonholes, joining fabric and fine hemming. Bring in your own sewing machine or use one of ours.

Name: How to Use your Sewing Machine: Level 1 Qualification title: Non regulated Community Learning provision, Crafts, Creative Arts and Design Qualification type: Assessment There will be a short lecture and demonstration by the tutor with discussion on all aspects of machining. The students will work on their personal machine with constant tutor input. Group discussion and feedback is encouraged. Starting with basic principles of the sewing machine, knowledge will be built on by repetition of processes on machine samples. Entry requirements

Sewing machine, instruction book and any machine feet bought with the machine. Sewing thread, same brand, 2 colours, scissors, pins, needles, tape measure and notebook. All electrical equipment used within the Learning Centre is regularly tested for safety. Learners who bring their own sewing machines into the Learning Centre do so at their own risk.
