Media Studies

UPDATED 20160923 07:29:55

AIM Media Studies is an exciting and highly relevant subject. The syllabus is designed to develop students’ abilities in traditional academic skills whilst also fostering new skillsets which are increasingly called for in the modern workplace as well as within higher education. Our students’ level of achievement has been consistently outstanding: last year 100% gained A*-A grades on their final A-Level. Several students have achieved full marks on their coursework this year and last. Our students’ coursework (including the research this requires) has been highly praised by our exam board, whilst many of our students have seen their work screened in a cinema as part of a national film festival; we aim to look higher than producing work that has the appearance of being a student production. The Media A-Level is a unique blend of practical production and theory-based work. The course is designed to continually combine these two elements, so that your learning on theory is enhanced through practical exercises, and your practical work improved through study of theory. We want you to emerge able to perceive and identify the hidden ideologies, or persuasive techniques, at play across our media, able to skillfully deconstruct any media text. We want you to grasp institutional, industrial & technological context as part of this. We want to equip you with an ability to tie media theories into relevant current affairs. We want to enhance your traditional academic skills whilst training you with filming, editing & blogging skills highly prized in modern business & academia. See website for modular information
