This course will provide you with an understanding of the theory of Engineering processes and vehicle systems in addition to the practical work carried out in the fully equipped motorsport workshops. During the course you will visit the College's specialist motorsport facility at Castle Combe race circuit.If you are working on competition vehicles in a motorsport team or on high performance vehicles in the Motor industry, this is a great place to start.

Name: Level 2 in Motorsport Qualification title: BTEC First Diploma in Engineering Qualification type: Assessment Areas of study will include: -  Sustainable Vehicle Power and Structure DesignThis specialist unit looks at environmentally sustainable power for both road and Motorsport vehicles. The design and construction of vehicle structures and use of materials with regard to safety, lightness and performance is also examined. -  Vehicle Electrical SystemsThis specialist unit is designed to provide students with an understanding of vehicle electrical systems. -  Vehicle Engines and Other SystemsThis specialist unit covers the operating principles of petrol and diesel engines, together with their associated fuel, exhaust and ignition systems. -  Engineering DesignThis covers the overall design process relating to the development of a new product/component. -  Machining TechniquesThis unit introduces students to basic machining operations using a drilling machine and centre lathe or milling machine. -  Mathematics for EngineeringEngineering in all its forms involves the use of mathematics and this unit provides the mathematical skills required at Level 2. -  Interpreting and Using Engineering InformationThis unit covers the effective use of information obtained from a wide range of sources including drawings. -  Engineering MaterialsThis unit covers the properties of common Engineering materials including the selection of appropriate materials for specific applications. -  Health and Safety in EngineeringThis unit provides students with an understanding of health and safety requirements for safe and effective working in an Engineering workplace. -  Introduction to Communications for EngineeringThe use of sketches and other communication methods, including information and communication technology (ICT), as used in Engineering are covered in this unit. -  Investigating an Engineered ProductThis unit covers areas such as performance requirements, materials, manufacturing processes and quality control in relation to an Engineered product. -  The Engineered WorldThis unit allows students to investigate the world of Engineering and answer the question; what is Engineering?It is expected that most assignment work will be completed in students own time.You are assessed by coursework in the form of written assignments and practical assessments.The final qualification will be a Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Diploma in Engineering.
