Portrait Drawing Beginners II

This course will guide you through different approaches to portrait drawing. You will explore a range of media, including soft pencils, charcoal and pastels. You will study the proportions of the face from looking at examples of other artists work. A lot of the work will use photographs as a visual reference, however, a portrait model will be available for 3 sessions so that you are able to develop your observational skills further. There may be an opportunity to develop portrait skills using paint, depending on learner interests. During the course you will: Develop basic drawing skills: measuring, observing and practising mark making techniques Learn the proportions of the face and the figure Learn to allow for foreshortening when the head is tilted Learn how to draw eyes, nose, mouth, and ears effectively Learn techniques and strategies to help get an accurate likeness of your model Produce portrait studies which incorporate all of these skills and techniques
