The foundation degree in Historic Building Conservation is delivered at the Building Crafts College. The degree is offered in partnership with Kingston University, which is the validating institution. This exciting qualification consists of 8 modules forming the degree, along with hands-on practical work in the workshops at the Building Crafts College and the laboratories at Kingston University as well as live project experience at a number of conservation sites. Year 1 1.Bridging Module in construction. Supporting the transition to degree work. 2.History of Architecture from Ancient Greece to the 21st century 3.Conservation and the Construction Industry 4.Health and Safety in Building 5.I.T. Graphical Realisation. Use of computers to design and present work. 6.Study trip. Site based visits to historic projects Year 2 1.Remedial Works. Maintenance, repair and conservation of historic buildings. 2.Traditional techniques. Craft methods, materials and skills used in conservation. Workshops and site-based activities. 3.Measurement and Analysis of Condition. Surveying and analysing the condition of historic buildings using Kingston laboratories. 4.Management skills. Management and supervisory skills for conservation work. 5.Elective Project. Practical conservation project decided by students based on their own interests. 6.Site based visits to historic building projects.
