The GCE course in Art, Craft & Design gives students the opportunity to develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical and contextual forms. This 4-unit specification which requires students to develop their ability to show a range of skills. These include independence of mind in developing their own ideas, an interest and enthusiasm for art and design, the experience of working with a range of media including traditional and new media and technologies, an awareness of different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art and design practice. Following the successful completion of the AS course students are able to continue onto the full A2 course.
Name: Art, Craft and Design AS Qualification title: GCE AS Level in Art and Design Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment Component 1: Personal Investigation. This component incorporates three major elements of supporting studies, practical work and a personal study of a minimum 1000 words of continuous prose. For Component 1 students must work in at least two disciplines drawn from different endorsed titles. Component 2 Externally Set Assignment. This component is weighted 40% of the total qualification. This component incorporates two major elements of preparatory studies and the 15hour period of sustained focus. The Externally Set Assignment represents the culmination of the GCE Qualification allowing students to draw together all the knowledge, understanding and skills developed throughout.
