The study of how English works as a language and how context affects spoken and written use of English. There are no set texts to study and students are encouraged to apply skills learned in lessons to everday material. Language is more than a tool for communication, it shapes our thoughts and in doing so it shapes our world. This is the focus of Advanced Study of English Language.

Name: A-Level English Language Qualification title: A-Level English Language Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment 80% exam 20% coursework The full A Level will assess ALL content from both years of the course and will be examined in June of the second year of study (negating the AS qualification). Continuous assessment will be used to inform the students' progression in Year 13 and their registration for the A Level English Language exam.
