Art, Craft and Design AS/A2 Level (Linear)

UPDATED 20161021 14:04:19

The syllabus is a broad-based art, craft and design title that enables students to explore a range of 2D, 3D and lens-based media in their studies. Throughout the Lower Sixth and until January of the Upper Sixth students work on their Personal Investigation. This constitutes 60% of the final grade. In February of the Upper Sixth students receive the theme for their Externally Set Assignment. This constitutes the other 40% of the final grade and has two assessed components – preparatory studies and a 15 hour timed test. For both the Personal Investigation and the Externally Set Assignment, students begin by researching and recording ideas from a given theme. They then analyse and review their research. From this they develop ideas by exploring media and techniques and investigate artefacts produced by different artists & designers from a range of cultures; as well as their own. From these explorations students will produce final outcomes. For the Personal Investigation, students must also produce a written personal study of at least 1000 words of continuous prose.
