Customers attend a the “Step into Security” programme that gives them an insight into the careers available in the security industry and covers the following: Work experience: • minimum of 100 hours work experience over the duration of the programme • Working in retail security, control rooms, Universities, Door supervision and static security environments • Work experience element will be days and evenings Classroom element will be: 28 hours per week (normally 4 days per week) • Retail security • Door supervision (certificated and SIA licence purchased by Mercury Training) • How to conduct searches • Practical radio skills, statement writing, patrolling • IED (Improvised Explosive Device) Awareness • Knowledge of CCTV • Conflict management • Physical Intervention • First aid awareness • Health & Safety awareness • Practical job searching for the sector • Writing the perfect CV to enter the security industry • English / Maths upskilling where required The Security Industry needs suitably trained people (male & female) to work in an every growing market, the programme is designed to give customers an insight to the careers available in security industry to see if it’s a career for them. Outcome and Future Opportunities During the programme, Mercury Training will apply for each learners SIA Door Supervision Licence which costs £220 per person. It is expected that customers will either be employed or become an apprentice by the end of the 16-week programme. All learners receive ongoing support and weekly emails regarding current job opportunities Careers available on completion of the traineeship are: • retail security • store detective • security officer • reception security • corporate blue chip security • concierge/hotel security • event stewarding • mobile patrol drivers • alarm receiving operators • door supervision • airport security • schools, universities etc.…
