This course is run in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University. Canterbury Christ Church was inspected in March 2014 and judged to be an outstanding teacher education programme for the Further Education and Skills Sector; one of only four outstanding providers in the country. It is a two year course leading to a Diploma in Education and Training (DET) or Professional Graduate Certificate of Education. Specialist pathways may also be available for teachers of ESOL, Literacy, Maths and Disabled Learners. It is possible to enter directly onto Year 2, provided that you have Accredited Prior Certificated Learning for Year 1. Successful completion of this course will allow you to apply for Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, which qualifies you to teach in secondary schools. In Year 1, you will study: •Introduction to Teaching and Learning (with specialist focus for pathways) •Assessment •Applying theory to practice In Year 2, you will study: •Curriculum (with specialist focus for pathways) •Policy and Professional Practice •Reflecting on Practice If you are interested in a specialism route, we can discuss these options further. Please note that you will need to attend generic studies at West Thames College and specialist studies at another college - venue to be confirmed.
