Drama (GCEA)

UPDATED 20151120 15:06:36

In the AS year students will study a practitioner such as Steven Berkoff and then produce a scripted performance in the style of that practitioner as either an actor or designer. Traditionally students have achieved very highly in this unit with several achieving full marks for their performance. Students also prepare for a written examination where they study a set text for one section and analyse a live performance for the other. We regularly arrange visits to a wide range of theatre to support this unit which have recently included Propellers production of A Midsummer Nights Dream, Othello, The Believers and Beautiful Burnout produced by Frantic Assembly, Blood Brothers by Willy Russell, Grand Guignol, Great Britain by Richard Bean and 1984 produced by Headlong. During the A2 year the students will create their own piece of devised theatre in a chosen style such as political theatre. They will also study two set texts pre 20th century and 20th century in preparation for the written examination.
