This course is designed for young people, who are wish to progress to employment in the Motor Industry Maintenance sector. You will gain practical skills in motor vehicle routine maintenance while studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. The course provides a mixture of training and assessment with the emphasis on practical skills along with underpinning knowledge. Both workshop and classroom activities form part of the delivery process. Successful completion of this course can lead to opportunities to study on higher level programmes such as Level 2 along with opportunities to advance within the sector. Course Content The programme consists of the following: 1. Contribute to workshop good housekeeping 2. Health and Safety 3. Job role skills in the automotive work environment 4. Skills in inspection and repair 5. Skills in receiving and storing stock 6. Basic fabrication techniques 7. Knowledge in Introduction to Vehicle Technology and Workshop Methods and Processes 8. Routine maintenance procedures 9. Knowledge of engine units and components 10. Knowledge of transmission units and components 11. Knowledge of chassis units and components In addition, 1 optional unit must be undertaken, normally: Skills and procedures employed to inspect vehicles using prescribed methods. English & Maths We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and Maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at Grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills Awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to University or employment.
