Sport and Active Leisure BTEC Level 1 Certificate

The BTEC Level 1 is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grade D-G and is composed of eight units: three core units, two personal skills units and three vocational units. The Level 1 involves practical sports work and exploring different careers available within sports. This qualification is aimed at students who lack confidence, who are not sure what their next step is and would like to try a one year course before moving onto a more demanding one, or who have achieved poor grades at school. Course content Core units (Compulsory): Starting Work in the Sport & Leisure Industry; Working in Sport & Leisure; The Healthy Body. Personal units (2 units): Personal Effectiveness; Financial Management. Plus three vocational units: Taking Part in Sport; Organising a Sport or Leisure Event; Issues in Sport and Leisure. Confidence building and strategies for personal development will be taught alongside Skills for Life qualifications and vocational units, including numeracy and literacy. Staff from the sports vocational area will deliver 4 units, with the remaining units being taught by the staff of the LLDD team. Learners will gain knowledge that will enable them to progress towards: employment, continuation onto a Level 2 Diploma qualification in Sport, training and/or independent living. English & Maths We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and Maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to university or employment.
