This course reflects recent developments in sport at all levels. This course provides an introduction to the sector to enable students to build a career in exercise, fitness, coaching and sports development. Questions that may be raised through this course include: Should a ten year old swimmer be spending up to four hours per day in the pool? Are those who pay for coaching getting value for money? At what age should children start weight training? Is Britain as a nation becoming unhealthier? Course Content Students will complete 19 modules over two years of full time study and build a portfolio of assessments. In addition, they can take a variety of coaching, performance and officiating awards to supplement their study. A period of work placement is included during which time students will use and develop skills acquired on the course. The course is approximately 50% practical and 50% theory in its content. A willingness to participate in a wide variety of sports is essential. Career Opportunities/Progression Completion of a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma (with merit or distinction) allows access to higher education courses where HND (Higher National Diploma) or Degree Courses are available. The student can continue the study of any or all aspects of the course in greater depth. Alternatively the course can lead to a wide variety of jobs in the sports, health and fitness industry.
