The desirable student must have a keen interest in computer music. Working on a functional skill in English or Maths at Level 1 or Level 2 will be included in this course (unless grade C or above is already achieved). 14 hours per week including tutorials and functional skills: Exploring Computer Systems Used by Musicians; Exploring Musical Composition; Producing a Musical Recording; The Music Industry; Investigating an Area of Music; Planning and Creating a Music Product; Working as a musical Ensemble. The course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs which gives the opportunity for progression to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology or Music, which are equivalent to 3 A levels. English & Maths We are committed to helping students improve their skills in English and maths. Students on a full-time course at College who missed out on GCSE qualifications at grades A-C in these subjects at school will attend additional classes and receive support to enhance their grades. Depending on individual ability, students will work towards GCSE, City & Guilds or Functional Skills awards to ensure that they have the qualifications needed to progress to university or employment. Progression We advise students that studying the BTEC Level 2 in Music (Technology) is a pathway to gaining a higher qualification to maximise employment potential. It would be unrealistic to think that there are jobs waiting in the industry for students with only a BTEC Level 2 Diploma. A merit is recommended for progression to a Level 3.
