Students will work in analogue and digital photography, developing their use of lens-based media through artistic methods. They will advance their technical and creative skills, learning and experimenting with a range of techniques such as creative lighting, darkroom practice, image editing and use of mixed media for their photographic artwork. Students will learn how to develop a project on a chosen theme, for which sketchbook skills, analysis of artists’ work and written annotations are very important. Student projects and examination pieces will be exhibited at the end of the academic year, showcasing their strongest work. With the new specification, we favour delivering this course as a two-year linear programme, removing the need for external AS assessment at the end of Year 12. We believe this will enable students to reach much fuller maturation as photographic artists, ultimately leading to a more meaningful overall experience and a stronger A level result.
