YEAR 12 AS LEVEL Unit 1 Opportunities for and the effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle Section A will require candidates to answer two questions on each of applied physiology, skill acquisition and opportunities for participation. Section B will examine the application of theoretical knowledge to a practical situation. Written Examination 84 marks 60% of AS 30% of A2 Unit 2 Analysis and evaluation of physical activity as a performer and/or in an adopted role/s. Section A requires candidates to be assessed on their ability in two of the following roles: performer, official or leader. Section B will look at the theoretical factors that improve performance. Candidates are assessed on this element through the section B question in Unit 1. Internal assessment with external moderation. 100 marks 40% of AS 20% of A2 YEAR 13 A2 LEVEL Unit 3 Optimising performance and evaluating contemporary issues within sport. Section A assesses how exercise physiology can optimise performance. Section B assesses how the application of psychological knowledge can optimize performance. Section C evaluates contemporary issues in sport and their impact on the performer. Written Examination 84 marks 30% of A level marks Unit 4 Optimising practical performance in a competitive situation. Candidates are assessed on their ability to perform, analyse and evaluate their own performance in a competitive/performance situation as either a player/performer or in an adopted role. Unit 4 – PHED 4: Optimising practical performance in a competitive situation.  Assessed in one role (performer/official or coach)  A season’s worth of competitive situations.  Project: Analysis of performance in relation to an elite performer.
