The AS and A2 specifications extend the GCSE skills of Performing, Composing and Listening which emphasise their interdependence. The AS is designed to be both a free-standing, coherent and rounded whole, and also a secure foundation for A2 Level. There are no limits on the instruments, voices or types of repertoire which may be presented in performance, encouraging study of the widest range of music from folk, popular and classical traditions of non-Western origin, as well as those of jazz and the Western classical and popular traditions.
