You will explore a variety of approaches to Photography. You will develop: An appreciation of different approaches to recording images, such as observation, analysis, expression and imagination Awareness of intended audience or purpose of images Appreciation of different ways of working as appropriate to set projects such as installation, portraiture, landscape, documentary and fashion Understanding of how ideas, feelings and meanings can be conveyed and interpreted in images Knowledge and understanding of the work of others Knowledge and understanding of historical and contemporary developments and different styles, movements and genres A working vocabulary and specialist terminology that is relevant to Photography images

Name: A-level Photography Qualification title: GCE A Level in Moving Image Arts (Pilot) Qualification type: External awarded qualification - Non-accredited Assessment Year 1 Component 1: Portfolio Course work. 60% of marks Component 2: Externally Assessed Assignment Course work including 10 hours under exam conditions. 40% of marks. Year 2 Component 1: Personal Investigation Course work including written project. 60% of marks Component 2: Externally Set Assignment Course work including 15 hours under exam conditions. 40% of marks. Early on in the course there will be group practical sessions that focus on developing a range of skills and techniques using a wide variety of media. Alongside development of practical skills there will also be a focus on developing ideas and concepts. As the course progresses you will have the opportunity to develop projects in a more personal direction. This developing work will be supported both by one-to-one tuition and group discussion and delivery. Tutor led group and individual discussion will introduce you to a wide range of artists, artworks and ideas relevant to practical project work. At this level an intellectual engagement with the work and ideas of others is essential. Contextual studies will be mainly evidenced in sketchbooks although you will need to complete a more formal written project in the second year of the course.
