Sport - Coaching and Activity Leadership - Level 2 (Diploma)

This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career in the sport and active leisure industry specifically in coaching. All students will study an NVQ programme which requires students to develop a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate the student is occupationally competent as a coach. Students will work towards reaching standards laid down by the sport and active leisure industry. Alongside the main qualification students will develop other employment and personal development skills ready for the world of work. Students also have opportunities to join sports academies, sports teams, sports clubs, contribute to sports events and be rewarded for volunteering through our step in to sport programme. There may also be opportunities for students to gain sports coaching and fitness instructor qualifications funding permitting. Students will work towards the following units - Prepare for Activity Sessions - Lead Activity Sessions - Conclude and Review Activity Sessions - Support the Work of the Team and Organisation - Promote Health, Safety and Welfare in Active Leisure and Recreation - Support Equality and Diversity in Active Leisure and Recreation - Give Customers a Positive Impression of Yourself and Your Organisation - Set-up, take down and store activity equipment It is key that all students who undertake this course have a work placement to be able to gain experience in the role of a coach and leader and generate evidence for their portfolio. Students will also be expected to work toward achieving GCSE English and maths if they have not achieved grade C or higher in these subjects. Students will also undertake classes to develop work skills ready for the Sport and Active Leisure Industry.
