Sociology is a contemporary subject, which is very much connected to the present. It explains the way in which society works and how individuals live together and co-operate through social institutions such as the education system, the family, religious institutions and the law. Sociology examines the development of society and the theories of those who have observed it, such as Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim. Studying Sociology allows you to examine current affairs, how society works and the people within it.
