Sociology Examination Board: AQA “People who like to avoid shocking discoveries ... should stay away from Sociology ... things are not always as they seem.” (Peter Berger) Sociology is an extremely popular subject at The John Warner School. As the study of everyday modern society students can engage with the subject very well in lessons. As humans we cannot live alone, so we try and understand what shapes our behaviour and attitudes. In Sociology you will explore many aspects of modern multi-cultural society and explore how and why society changes. You will also be encouraged to question and evaluate ideas. Sociology lays a firm foundation for further study at higher education or for general education and lifelong learning. Sociology compliments many other subjects as it is a ‘real life’ subject and supports students understanding of their social world. Students can combine Sociology with Arts and Science subjects at A Level. Students opt for Sociology with subjects such as Psychology, Geography, History or English. We also have students who combine Sociology with Science, Mathematics or ICT. The subject content for this A- level includes the following: Paper 1: Education with Sociological Theory and Research methods Paper 2: Topics in Sociology – Families and Households Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with Sociological Theory and Methods
