The AS units are: Unit 1: Language TodayYour focus is contemporary texts (Spoken, Written and Electronic), where you will explore how different people use language and how they vary their language choices according to context. Unit 2: Exploring the Writing ProcessHere your focus is to demonstrate your ability as a writer. You will submit a coursework folder, containing two texts you have produced for different audiences. Text 1: For a reading audience; A Journalistic Interview or Narrative Writing Text 2: For a listening audience; A Scripted Presentation on a Topical Issue or a Dramatic MonologueBoth of the above will be accompanied by written commentaries explaining the techniques you used to convey the desired effects. The A2 units are: Unit 3: Language Diversity and Children’s Language Development; You will learn about origin, development and variation of language. You will study how and why English has changed over time, the development of English as a world language and the development of children’s spoken and written language. Unit 4: English Language Investigation and PresentationYou will independently research a language topic area, deciding on the focus of your investigation and selecting your own data for analysis.
