Year 1 The Core Studies are 15 ground-breaking investigations, which have shaped modern Psychology. The examination will require an in-depth knowledge of these studies, their methodology and terminology. The Psychological Investigations paper requires students to be familiar with four different techniques for collecting and analysing data, which will mean that students get an opportunity to carry out their own reasearch, including field work at a local zoo. Year 2 Psychology is separated in to two key areas; Education and Health Psychology. Educational Psychology gives a fascinating insight in to the teaching and learning process, covering topics such as, 'Why students misbehave' and 'How do students learn?'. As we have all had a varied experience of school life, we can all relate to this topic. You will never approach your lessons in the same way again! Health Psychology focusses on our attitude to health for example, what we say to the doctor and what the doctor hears, why we do things that are bad for us and how to stop, why and how we feel pain and why we experience stress. In addition to the two topic areas, students are also required to complete a research methods paper, which requires students to design a practical project and answer structured questions on it. A Level Psychology is an exciting course. Psychology aims to help us understand human and animal behaviour and sits happily in the areas of humanities and science.
