UPDATED 20151113 09:29:08

The Advanced subsidiary GCE is both a ‘stand-alone’ qualification and also the first half of the Advanced GCE in Biology. Advanced GCE in biology requires the completion of 6 units; at both AS and A2 two units are externally assessed and one is internally assessed giving 3 units to be completed during year 12 and a further 3 units in year 13. Knowledge and understanding of key concepts are addressed in year 12 whilst the general overview is studied in year 13. GCE Biology aims to develop the student’s interest in and enthusiasm for biology, developing an interest in further study and careers in biology. It will develop appreciation of how society makes decisions about scientific issues and in turn their contribution to society. A greater understanding of How Science Works will be developed along with an in depth knowledge of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.
