Year 1 Exciting projects throughout the year which allows students to experiment with fabric whilst developing knowledge of art, fashion and the design industry. The study of Textiles investigates visual and tactile forms of communication. The design of fabric and fibres can have a functional and/or decorative use. Students will explore a range of techniques from screen printing, silk painting to embroidery and surface decoration. The Textile indusrty is a competitive one in which the designer must be aware of the importance of high-quality design as well as technical competence. This course is not about making garments but explores the manipulation and decoration of fabric. There are links with further and higher education, talks, shows and visits. All of this enables students to develop a diverse portfolio of ideas. Year 2 Students will cover a variety of units enabling them to develop their understanding of Textile resources and processes. Through the use of sketchbooks and boards students will develop ideas showing links to other artist, designers and cultures. Through research methods students will explore a range of media to develop final pieces. The course is not just about fashion but encourages students to develop an understanding of fabric construction, manipulation and decoration. Enrichment: Trips, visits and talks
