This highly exciting form of animation combines many of the most fundamental animation principles used across all animation mediums. Stop-motion stands out because you do not have to be artistic to create it or even highly computer literate, however as an artist there are many further possibilities. The aim of this course is to enable every participant to make their own stop-motion flm and to understand and enjoy the process. The course will cover the necessary steps for planning, constructing, animating and editing a basic stop-motion flm, using common materials easily found in a variety of different shops. Each student will need their own computer for using the recommended software - which will be disclosed along with other details before the course starts - in order to create their own animated project at home, during the course time. At the end of the course there will be a screening of these home-made flms to appreciate each other's achievements! This course is suitable for anyone interested or curious in stop-motion. To get the most out of the course, being able to work on your own project at home is key. Stop-motion animation is a 'hands on' medium that allows a great variety of technique. Students with artistic skills will fnd stop-motion allows them to use all their existing knowledge in an exciting new medium, while interested novices without traditional artistic know-how will discover that they can use their own understanding and experience in creative and exciting ways. Students who require help controlling their hand movements will need a carer to assist them.

It is worth bringing an A5 notebook and pen to every lesson so you can take notes on the tasks and discuss ideas with colleagues, which should always be written down. You will also need an A4 sketchbook and pencil for designing your storyboards / characters. Non-artistic students should do the same (don't worry you will be helped!) and you may artistically surprise yourself! There will be detailed info given out closer to the course start date about what you need to set up your home project. Very briefy, you need a computer, the animation software, an angle-poise lamp, a camera and fnally a place where you can work (ideally somewhere that light can be controlled with curtains /blinds or with no natural light such as a basement)..
