Sewing Bee - Soft Toys

This 'Sewing Bee - Soft Toys' course is a fun short course where you will be able to sew unique soft toys. You will be learning to use a sewing machine and do some basic hand stitching on your own selection of projects. Patterns and tuition will be available to make a teddy bear, rag doll, floppy bunny, dog, caterpillar, bear or doll head comforter. All of these can be personalised with embroidered or appliqued motifs including initials or names. Students will select their own fabrics and work at their own pace on whichever projects they choose. By the end of the course students should be able to: - Thread up and use a variety of stitches on a sewing machine, - Make and press an open seam, - Make a button hole, - Stitch on a button by hand, - Show awareness of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines Absolute beginners or those who want to brush up their basic skills and start to sew small craft projects.

Entry requirements

You will need: - A notepad, pen and pencil, - A basic sewing kit if you have one You may wish to bring your own sewing machine to the class. We have plenty of fabric scraps, trimmings and thread available to make samples, you will need to supply the fabric for the projects you undertake. In the first class you will make samples to practise the basic techniques you will need during the course and trace out patterns to use. We will have a selection of fun fake fur and fabrics in the class for you to buy to make your first project. Alternatively you may wish to bring half a metre of your own fabric. During the first class you will decide on the projects you will cover in the following classes and work out what you need to buy for these. Please contact the Programme Manager at the centre if you have any queries about what to buy.
