This course is aimed at those who have already had some experience of Botanical Illustration and a good grounding in the fundamentals of drawing and painting. The focus of the course is placed heavily upon the careful observation of a wide variety of plant subjects. Whilst honouring the traditions of Botanical Illustration there is plenty of opportunity to experiment with innovative techniques and interpretations. Materials used will include pencil, ink, watercolour and gouache. By the end of this course you should be able to: Use a work journal to research and develop your own project ideas. Draw and paint botanical subjects using a range of media and techniques. Mix colours using colour theory to correspond with observed colours. Successfully execute tonal gradation, texture and pattern. Recognise and respond to the work of other botanical artists, Present a portfolio of botanical artwork. Students who have completed the Beginners course or have the equivalent experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
