Glass Fusing - Introduction

Students will be introduced to the craft of glass fusing to create small items such as jewellery pieces and small dishes. Materials may include glass, wire, and foils. This course uses hand tools and basic forming techniques. The tutor will demonstrate basic techniques related to the materials, such as construction and the addition of wire and foil to create effects. Students will be able to collect fired pieces from the Centre a week later. By the end of this course you should be able to: - use tools and materials safely, - design and construct a small item from glass, - know how to add wire and/or foil to create effects There is no qualification for this course. All materials are available to buy from the tutor, the price depending on what you want to make. You will also need to pay the tutor for firing costs. Prices for materials and firing start at £1.00 for small glass tiles to about £4, depending on the size of the item. Students should also bring paper and a pencil, and an apron.
