Explore Drawing - Improvers

This course will explore the use of a wide variety of drawing media, including graphite, ink, charcoal, coloured pencils and pastels. You will use a range of techniques, including mixed media approaches. By working from both direct observation and from photographic references and sketches, you will encounter a variety of interesting and stimulating subject matter - landscape, still life, natural forms, etc. Reference will also be made to the work of other artists as appropriate. By the end of the course you should be able to: Work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter. Select and use the appropriate drawing media, materials and equipment. Use a range of drawing techniques and formal elements - line, tone, texture, colour, etc. Produce monochrome and colour drawings. Recognise the styles and techniques of selected fine artists. Work to health and safety guidelines. Students who have completed a Beginners course or have similar experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
