Have you got a scruffy old chair or stool that needs a facelift but an upholsterer is too expensive ! Why not learn how to transform your object into something beautiful by joining our upholstery course. On this upholstery course at Sevenoaks Adult Education you can learn a variety of traditional and modern upholstery techniques, using upholstery tools and materials.This is a practical upholstery course for students to develop skills and work on projects of their own choice.Starting with stripping back your chosen piece of furniture, then webbing it, stuffing it and finally giving it a new lease of life with a beautiful fabric and trim. Demonstrations and guidance on techniques will be given throughout the course and there is a large free car park so you don't have far to carry your chairs !, By the end of the course you will be able to: Use a web stretcher, Identify basic materials, Name and make two basic knots, Select the correct tack for an element of the project, Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines This upholstery course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

Entry requirements

Please bring a dining chair or stool to your first class together with an old dust sheet, a 4oz pin hammer, small pair of pliers, fabric scissors, pen and notebook. A digital camera is useful, if you have one. Please ask before bringing large pieces of furniture as there is limited space available in the centre. Apart from pens and notebooks please do not buy books or equipment before the start of the course. Details will be discussed at the first session. A small charge of approximately £6.00 per term is made for tacks and string. Most upholstery materials and tools are usually available to be purchased at the class. Please make sure that the course is actually running before purchasing any items.
