Students will research the law of murder as well as looking at the defences of murder (voluntary and involuntary manslaughter). Non-fatal offences against the person, involving issues such as assault, battery and actual bodily harm will be studied. The idea of defences against criminal offences will be researched as well as a thorough look into the current law of all topics studied including considerations of proposals for reform. After the third module has been examined in January, the fourth module is split into two. Initially students will study theft and robbery, burglary, blackmail, criminal damage, making off without payment and fraud. Students of the second part of the module will be asked to use the knowledge learnt from previous modules to answer questions in relation to either: Law and Morals, Law and Justice, Judicial Creativity and Balancing Conflict of Interests. This will be examined in the summer of the course.
