A Level French will broaden the linguistic skills and cultural awareness acquired from GCSE study through an understanding of topical issues and social contexts. Students will develop the ability to speak freely and at length about a variety of subjects, with matters ranging from youth culture to environment, medical ethics to multiculturalism. This aims to give students a more holistic picture of the French political, historical and social landscape, and the contemporary problems it faces. Furthermore, students are encouraged to develop a deeper appreciation of French culture and its influences, including films, music and literature. This culminates in studentsselecting particular areas of interest, about which they will create extendedspeaking and writing. The course focuses on fostering an inquisitive mindset and independent research skills which are readily transferable to further language study and higher education in general.
