The department boasts good resources which include large spacious rooms to work in and a model-making workshop. The product design course has very close links to the Graphic Products and Resistant Materials GCSE. Year one students will study:• Portfolio of creative skills: Have the opportunity to develop your creative, technical and practical skills through a series of product investigations, design activities and manufacturing activities • Designing for the future: Develop a knowledge and understanding of a wide range of materials and processes used in the field of design and technologyYear two students will study:• Designing for the future: Develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of modern design and manufacturing practices and contemporary design issues • Commercial design: Have the opportunity to design and make a commercial product of your choice that complies with the requirements of a graphics project. The topic of the project must contain a 2D and 3D element. A range of modelling materials must be used to realise the final designProduct Design has two clearly defined pathways: conceptual design or the built environment.
