French (AS Level)

UPDATED 20151110 12:19:54

A variety of thought-provoking, contemporary issues is covered in the year, including social issues and trends, artistic culture and the study of a work of literature and a film. Students broaden their cultural knowledge far beyond that of GCSE and develop their skills and confidence in speaking, writing, reading and listening but also in their critical analysis and response to the set text and set film. The Learning Resource Centre is stocked for research and reading for pleasure, films, periodicals, TV and the Internet. Students are encouraged to use French as their means of communication at all times. To facilitate this, additional support is provided outside timetabled lessons by a weekly conversation class with a foreign language assistant. There is also the opportunity for students to take part in an exchange with a school in Orléans towards the end of Year 12, specifically timed to help maximise success in their oral exam, and we organise regular local trips to extend language learning beyond the classroom.
