AS Level Paper 1: Exam 1 hour 30mins - Language and the Individual (50% AS) Analysis of two texts linked by topic/theme and a comparison of the two. Paper 2: Exam 1 hour 30 Language varieties (50% AS) Essay on language diversity. Directed writing task on attitudes towards language. A Level Paper 1: Exam – 2 hours 30 minutes – Language, the Individual and Society (40%) Comparison of how texts use language, e.g. in advertising/websites. Examination of language development in children e.g. Primary school students’ writing. Paper 2:Exam – 2 hours 30 minutes – Language Diversity and Change (40%) Essay on how language varies according to the speaker and the context. Comparison of 2 texts in terms of how they use language, followed by an opinion article. Coursework 3500 words (20%) Investigate an area of language use e.g. Genre/function/attitudes/user-based. Original writing: either to persuade, story-telling or information.
