This programme is a good introduction to a career in hospitality and catering. Students will find out about the kinds of jobs involved in the industry, develop practical skills and investigate the materials, ingredients and equipment used in the industry. Units include basic food preparation and cooking, food service and customer care All equipment, materials and ingredients are provided, but you will need to buy a knife set and protective clothing. Functional Skills. You will be studying Functional Skills (Maths and English) as part of your course to enable you to progress onto Level-2 qualifications. Work Experience opportunity As part of the programme you will conduct a two week work placement in a Business and Enterprise organisation/field of your choice. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting. Enrichment Activities A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are lectures by guest speakers from multinational hospitality chains and experienced chefs. Visits to various industry leaders. You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to show case your skills I-Learning Sessions This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research. Support Tutorials Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course and provide you with professional guidance and support throughout the course. Personal Learning Plan Sessions A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plan
