Applied Engineering (Single Award)

The course is essentially a hands-on, practical course, which builds on the skills developed in the GCSE Engineering/ Design and Technology course. Students will have the opportunity to use engineering machines and equipment such as centre lathes, horizontal band saw, milling machine and MIG welder, as well as some of our extensive range of CAD/CAM equipment such as laser cutters, CNC lathe and router, and the 3D printer. AS Units: Unit 1: Engineering Materials Processes and Techniques. Unit 2: The Role of the Engineer. Unit 3: Principles of Design, Planning and Prototyping. A2 Units: Unit 4: Applied Engineering Systems. Unit 5: The Engineering Environment. Unit 6: Applied Design, Planning and Prototyping.
