PERFORMING ARTS BTEC LEVEL 3 (RPA)

The BTEC qualification has been developed to provide students with an opportunity to enter employment in the performing arts sector or to progress to other vocational qualifications. The course provides learners with an opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal skills and attributes essential for a successful performance working life. At RPA we have selected a range of units (see below) requiring students to have an interest and experience in dance, music and drama. Compulsory Unit: Performing to an audience The aim of this unit is to give students experience of performing a role as part of an group showing music/drama/dance to a live audience in an appropriate setting. Optional Units (of which students must select five to study) Unit: Musical theatre performance Students will take part in a musical theatre performance. Students will rehearse a role that requires them to use acting, singing and dancing skills. Unit: variety performance Students will develop and perform an Unit: Drama improvisation Students will work on dramatic situations without the support of a written text. Unit: Approaches to directing for theatre Students will develop a range of approaches to theatre directing and will put into practice elements of different directorial styles in their own work for the theatre. Unit: Script writing Students will develop an understanding of the process of researching and writing scripts. Unit: Dance Performance Students will explore and perform dances, getting a taste of the real world of the working dancer where talent, technical ability, aesthetic sense, fitness and stamina combine. Unit: Dance Appreciation Students will gain a deeper knowledge of professional dance works. Unit: Singing Techniques and Performance Pupils will develop their voice through lessons each week. Pupils must demonstrate an ability to sight sing.
