The course has access to fantastic on-site facilities including a greenhouse, garden shop and planting beds. The group produces horticultural products to sell in college and makes gifts at key times such as Christmas and Easter. This course covers a wide range of practical skills with a large hands-on element. Background knowledge is given to help you recognise different plants. The course will cover topics such as: Maintaining safe and effective practices Working with plants Propagating plants Maintaining plants Maintaining equipment Maintaining structures and surfaces Identifying and controlling common pest and plant disease Preparing growing media (e.g. compost) You will also develop your employability skills and key skills in communication, maths and IT.
