Course Content: The IB Diploma Programme Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) course is the study and evaluation of the impacts of information technology (IT) on individuals and society. It explores the advantages and disadvantages of the access and use of digitised information at the local and global level. ITGS provides a framework for the student to make informed judgments and decisions about the use of IT within social contexts. What skills will you gain? This course enables students to: • Develop an understanding of issues of information systems, • Evaluate the consequences of IT on society, • Discuss and evaluate the social significance of IT, • Discuss ethical considerations arising from the application of IT, • Predict the changes most likely to emerge in the future. Extensive international databases of information can be readily accessed and communications can be sent around the world in seconds.
