This course is designed for learners of all abilities from the absolute beginners to those who wish to extend their existing skills. You will be introduced to the most current trends and methods of construction as well as shown how to use traditional skills. You will have the opportunity to construct cushions, different types of window dressing (curtains, blinds, tie backs), bedding (fitted sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, throws), table linen, loose covers or lampshades. You can also explore a variety of decorative techniques, which are used in soft furnishing (applique, fabric painting, patchwork, quilting, embroidery). You will be shown how to use sewing and overlocking machines as well as a selection of other tools and equipment used in production of soft furnishings. For those who are interested in learning upholstery skills they will have an opportunity to learn how to upholster an item using modern methods (e.g. using foam filling) or discover the reward of re-upholstering a piece of furniture using traditional skills (e.g. webbing, applying springs, using horsehair or vegetable fibre) Some simple restoration work on the pieces of furniture could be undertaken e.g.
